Leader - Smaller Charity

The finalists are:

Nicolas McCrickard

Nicolas leads East Down Rural Community Network. Nicolas is a leader who is described as incredible through his ability to juggle multiple pressures. He is almost always faced with a shortage of staff and other resources but his extreme energy and excellent people skills enable him to get the very best outcomes for his organisation.  Nicolas has been a pioneer in many cross community initiatives and is unfailingly sensitive to cultural differences in his work. Nicolas is described as a man who is unassuming and quiet but can move mountains with his energy, dedication and leadership.

Michael McGoldrick

Michael leads First Steps Women’s Centre in Dungannon and has done since 2007. In just over 2.5 years he has reversed the difficult situation in which his organisation found itself – quite simply his leadership avoided closure of First Steps Women’s Centre. He has now created a small organisation which has a clear vision for the future and has the full backing of all key stakeholders. He has been able to secure £1.2 million funding to secure the stability and sustainability of his organisation. He has developed a team-focused culture which makes maximum use of a minimum of resources. Michael is described as more than the leader – he is uniquely able to retain the mantle of leadership whilst encouraging innovation, independence and creativity.

Patricia Haren

Patricia is Director of Women’s Support Network. Patricia’s leadership has enabled her organisation to deliver on a range off much needed projects for women in disadvantaged communities as part of her 5 year strategy. This in itself has been remarkable because of the many difficult and complex issues that she has faced during this time. She has been able to secure 100% core funding from government, re built her team, recognised their training and development needs and created an environment where all feel important - she has subsequently worked to enable her organisation to be awarded with IIP status.

The winner is Patricia Haren
